Lead scoring software that grades accounts before you reach out
Classic lead scoring software adds points after a lead fills in a form or opens an email. That helps marketing hand over warm leads, but it says nothing about the thousands of companies that have never visited your site. ProspectScouter scores accounts before the first touch: every company on your scouting board gets a fit grade from A to D against your ideal customer profile, with the reasons written out and the buying signals linked to their sources.

Account scoring for outbound, not only inbound
Lead scoring and account scoring answer different questions. Lead scoring asks how engaged a known person is. Account scoring asks how well a company fits the customer you win with, and whether something is happening there that makes now a good time. Outbound teams need the second answer first, because most accounts on a target list have not engaged yet.

Many teams run both. Marketing automation scores inbound leads, and ProspectScouter grades the outbound universe. When an account you graded A later converts inbound, the CRM shows both views.
Fit, signals and freshness in one grade
The grade combines three things. Fit measures how closely the company matches your ICP: industry, size band, region, the buyer roles it employs and the technologies that sit next to your product. Signals measure whether there is a current reason to reach out, such as hiring for a role you help, new funding, a new executive, a new location, a tech change or a new product launch. Freshness favors recent signals over old ones.
- Grade A means strong fit and at least one relevant, recent signal.
- Grade B means strong fit with a weaker or older signal, or a good signal with partial fit.
- Grade C means partial fit and no clear reason to reach out this week.
- Grade D means the company falls outside the ICP on a key criterion.
Each grade is shown with its reasons, for example "201 to 1000 employees, inside your size band", "hiring two SDRs, signal from the careers page" or "sells to consumers, outside your ICP". Reps see why, not just what. The prospect research page shows where the grade sits in a full report.

A Fits size, region and buyer role
One definition of a good account across the team
Disagreement about what a good account looks like costs teams more than any tool. With ProspectScouter, the ICP is defined once by the people who own it, often RevOps or the head of sales, and every rep's board is graded against the same model. When a rep disagrees with a reason, they flag it, and the owner can refine the ICP for everyone.
Growth includes three ICPs and Scale includes ten, so teams selling into several segments keep a separate model for each. A team selling to both mid-market SaaS and logistics companies, for example, gets two boards graded by two different profiles instead of one blurred average. Our ideal customer profile template helps you write the criteria that drive the grade.

Send the grade where your team already works
Grades travel with the account. CSV export includes the grade and the reasons on every plan. HubSpot and Pipedrive sync on Growth and Salesforce sync on Scale write the grade and the top signal to the company record, after checking for an existing record so nothing is duplicated. Sales leaders can then build views and reports in the CRM they already use. The integrations page lists which fields sync on each plan.

What to look for in lead scoring software for outbound
When you evaluate lead scoring software or an account scoring tool for outbound, test it with accounts you already know well.
Large intent data platforms and enterprise sales intelligence suites also score accounts, often with third-party intent data, and are usually sold on annual, quote-based contracts. ProspectScouter is self-service, priced per month, and built on public pages and announcements you can verify. Our sales intelligence page and the ZoomInfo alternatives comparison explain the trade-offs.
- 01 Explainability: does each score come with reasons a rep can read and challenge.
- 02 Evidence: are signals linked to their public source, or inferred from data you cannot check.
- 03 Setup: can you define the model from your own website and best customers, or does it need a data project.
- 04 Segments: can you keep separate models for separate markets.
- 05 CRM fit: does the score sync to the company record without creating duplicates.
- 06 Cost: is the price predictable for the number of accounts you work each month.
An example of a graded account
For example, imagine you sell onboarding software to HR teams at companies with 200 to 1,000 employees. The scout finds a 340 person logistics firm. Its careers page lists a new "people operations lead" role, and its news page announces a second warehouse. The report grades it A with three reasons: inside your size band, hiring for the buyer role you serve, and expanding to a new location that will bring a wave of new hires. The suggested angle ties onboarding to the new site, and the opener mentions the role and the expansion.
A second firm in the same industry has 90 employees and no recent signals. It grades C, sits lower on the board and goes on a watch list. When it posts a people operations role three months later, a Growth or Scale plan sends an alert and the grade moves up.
FAQ
What is the difference between lead scoring and account scoring?
Lead scoring rates individual people based on their engagement, such as form fills and email opens. Account scoring rates companies based on how well they fit your ideal customer profile and whether they show buying signals. Outbound teams need account scoring first, because most target accounts have not engaged yet.
Can I change how accounts are graded?
Yes. The grade follows your ICP. Edit the industries, size bands, regions, buyer roles or adjacent technologies in the ICP, and the next board is graded against the new version. Growth and Scale keep separate ICPs for separate segments.
Does the grade use intent data from third parties?
The grade uses your ICP, firmographic data and buying signals from public company pages, public filings and announcements. Each signal links to its source, so the reasons behind a grade can be checked by anyone on the team.
Does the grade sync to my CRM?
Yes. CSV export includes the grade and reasons on every plan. HubSpot and Pipedrive sync on Growth and Salesforce sync on Scale write the grade and top signal to the company record after checking for duplicates.
Will ProspectScouter replace the lead scoring in my marketing tool?
It complements it. Your marketing tool keeps scoring inbound engagement, and ProspectScouter grades accounts before they engage. Together they give sales a view of both fit and activity.
