Prospect research reports on every account worth your time
Good prospect research answers four questions before the first touch: is this company a fit, why is now a good moment, who should I talk to and what should I say. Done by hand, that takes a rep twenty to forty minutes per account across company pages, job boards and news. ProspectScouter writes a scouting report for every account on your board that answers those four questions, with a source link behind every claim.

Everything a rep needs before the first touch
A scouting report is a single page with a fixed structure, so reps learn where to look and can read one in a few minutes. Every section is built from what the scout actually read on the company's public pages and in public announcements, and every buying signal links back to its source.

Buying signals with the source attached
The most valuable part of prospect research is the reason to reach out now. The scout reads the homepage, careers and jobs pages, about page, news and blog of each account, along with public filings and announcements, and looks for signals that relate to your product: hiring for a role you help, new funding, a new executive, a new location, a change in technology or a new product launch.
Each signal is shown with the quoted text it came from and a link to the page. For example, a report might quote a job post for "first revenue operations manager" and link the careers page where it appears. A rep can open the link, confirm the post is still live and mention it with confidence. Signals without a source never appear in a report. Our article on sales trigger events explains how to act on each signal type within a week.
- Hiring signals come from careers and jobs pages.
- Funding, leadership and expansion signals come from news pages and public announcements.
- Technology signals come from job descriptions and public pages.
- Launch signals come from blog, news and product pages.

A fit grade with reasons, not a mystery number
Each report opens with a fit grade from A to D measured against your ideal customer profile. The grade comes with the reasons in plain sentences: "51 to 200 employees, inside your size band", "sells to finance teams, matches your buyer", "no sign of a sales engagement tool". Reps can disagree with a reason and flag it, which helps RevOps refine the ICP. The account scoring page explains how the grade works across a team.

Roles to contact and verified details
Research is only useful if it leads to a person. The report lists the roles most likely to own the problem the signal points to, ordered by priority, for example a VP of Sales first and a sales operations lead second. The contact finder then returns work emails and direct lines for those roles from licensed data providers, verified before export. Contacts count against your monthly allowance only when you reveal them, so you spend the allowance on accounts you have decided to work. See the email finder page for how verification works.

How reps use a report in their week
The research step should fit into a normal working day. A common pattern looks like this.
- Monday, open the board and skim the A and B grades with fresh signals.
- Open each report, check the snapshot and click through the top signal.
- Pick two roles, reveal verified contacts, and adjust the suggested angle with one thing you know.
- Edit the opener, send it from your own email or sequencing tool, and sync the account to your CRM.
- Put accounts that are not ready on a watch list and wait for the next signal alert.
For example, if manual research takes thirty minutes per account and a report brings that to five, forty accounts a week free up more than sixteen hours across a team. Treat this as illustrative arithmetic; measure your own before and after. Our guide on how to research a prospect in 10 minutes covers the manual checklist the report is built on.

Manual research still matters for strategic accounts. The report gives the rep a strong starting point, and their own knowledge adds the line that makes the message personal.
Prospect research for SDRs, AEs and founders
SDRs use reports to work forty to sixty accounts a week without losing quality. Account executives use them to prepare first calls in a named territory and to spot new signals on accounts they already know. Founders doing founder-led sales use them as the research a first sales hire would do. The use cases page shows each workflow in more detail, and the sales intelligence page explains where reports fit among broader sales data tools.
FAQ
What is prospect research in B2B sales?
Prospect research is the work of checking whether a company fits your ideal customer profile, finding a current reason to contact it, choosing the right people and preparing what to say. Done well, it raises reply rates because each message is relevant to something real at the account.
How long does a scouting report take to produce?
The demo report on the homepage builds in under a minute. On a paid plan, reports for your weekly scouting board are ready when the board refreshes, so reps open them instead of waiting.
Can I trust the buying signals in a report?
Every signal shows the quoted text and a link to the public page it was found on. Reps can confirm it in one click before using it. If a page cannot be read, the report says so instead of filling the gap.
Does the report include personal data about contacts?
The report names roles, not people. Work emails and direct lines appear only when a signed-in user reveals contacts for an account, and they come from licensed data providers under GDPR and CCPA handling. The demo shows role titles only.
How many reports do I get per month?
Each scouted account comes with a report. Starter includes 150 scouted accounts per month, Growth 750 and Scale 4,000. Enterprise includes 20,000.
